Iconotheca Valvasoriana Silk Square

The project brings together artists and designers who reinterpret fine artworks as silk prints. Each piece is produced in a limited edition and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This particular design is inspired by the 18-volume collection Iconotheca Valvasoriana by Janez Vajkard Valvasor, housed at the Metropolitan Library in Zagreb. In 2008, at the initiative of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), a facsimile edition was published to highlight its importance as a cornerstone of Slovenian cultural heritage. To further raise awareness of the collection, designer Sašo Urukalo selected motifs from the original watercolours, graphically reworked them, and transferred them onto silk. The result is a multifunctional object that can serve as an artwork, a scarf, or a collectors' item. The limited series comprises just 50 pieces, available in three colour variations. Each is made from 100% high-quality natural silk certified to GOTS standards. Digital printing is used to minimise waste and reduce environmental impact. Special attention has been paid to packaging: each box is handmade by a family-run paper atelier in Ljubljana, reflecting three generations of craftsmanship.
