The Metamorphoses comic anthology presents a unique fusion of contemporary Slovenian literature and comics.
These metamorphoses from short stories to comics are more than just interpretations of thematically and stylistically diverse literary works ranging from socially critical and personal narratives to darkly humorous tales, sarcastic horrors, and dystopian-poetic fantasies; with their powerful visual storytelling and the interplay of text and illustration, they offer a fresh and engaging reading experience, capturing the diversity and dynamism of Slovenia’s literary and comic art landscapes. The anthology highlights the creative vitality, distinctive voices, and intersections within contemporary Slovenian literary and comic book production, as well as standout authors with clearly recognisable styles. The literary and visual stylistic diversity expands the reader’s perception of societal realities, reflected both in the nuances of the written texts and their narrative conclusions, as well as in the graphic expression of each artist. Employing a range of visual languages within the classic black-and-white comic technique, they infuse the stories with a unique visual authorship.
The metamorphoses in the anthology were created by Jakob Klemenčič, Marko Kociper, Matej Kocjan - Koco, Tanja Komadina, Igor Šinkovec, Primož Krašna, Martin Ramoveš, Gašper Rus, Iztok Sitar, Matej Stupica, and Andrej Štular.
The stories that inspired them were written by Andrej Blatnik, Nejc Gazvoda, Zoran Knežević, Mojca Kumerdej, Blaž Kutin, Vesna Lemaić, Miha Mazzini, Tomo Podstenšek, Ana Schnabl, Andrej Tomažin, and Zarja Vršič.
